Time Well Spent

I have learned so much on this journey to get my Masters. This is something I have always wanted to do. Three things that I feel deeply about are: That it takes a team of people to help change things and that is done by working together has a team. When it came to isms I never really thought about how many of them there are and how much diversity is involved. I have

always treated each child with the respect and let them know that they were loved I just assume that all teachers did that. The third is that we can make a difference in a child’s life if we work together with the families and communities. Treating a child and their families with respect and honoring their traditions and making them feel welcome are very important.
The long term goal that I have is to work in a special needs class and to make sure that the children are welcomed and treated with respect. That all teachers and people know that they can be taught whether it be book learning or teaching life skills to them. Working with schools on teaching the teachers and assistants how to work with children with disabilities and I really hope to work with children with autism.
I would like to say thank you to Dr. E and all my instructors throughout this journey. Also thanks to my classmates for all their advice through the blogs and discussions. I know that each of you will succeed in the path you take after graduation.

  1. You and I both have felt the same way about wanting to take this journey but nerves, time, family and something else always seemed to get in the way but not this year and not this time. We did it Mary and we can say that we conquer another something in this road called life. I wish you so much success that I cannot find the words to say it without tearing up. It has been a journey and a half and being an adult with responsibilities and children and a job and wife and mother and and and well you know it has not been easy but I am so glad I tackle this obstacle and I am empowered to tackle many more. I hope you truly get what you are hoping and praying for with this new accomplishment under your belt. Good Luck in everything you do and go out and make a difference in the life of a child and family for the good.

  2. Mary, I love the quotes in your post. They convey a powerful message that hopefully every early childhood educator will realise. Thank you for being a part of my learning community at Walden. It makes a lot of difference being in this journey with all those who care for the young children. I wish you the best in your next adventures.

  3. Hi Mary,
I always enjoyed reading your blogs and I truly believe you will become an inspirational advocate in working with children with special needs. Children need more concern teachers like you to encourage them and not discourage their feelings. Overall I wish you nothing but the best.

  4. Mary,
Your goal is a very admirable one! I am sure that through your actions and interactions alone, you will be able to cause a positive change through your positive leadership and role modeling. Working with children with special needs often requires a great deal of collaboration between the many adults that comprise a special education team. I wish you the very best in your future as you work towards this goal, along with any other accomplishments you work towards!
